Visit of Amadea Cruise Ship, Tor Bay, Devon

About

An increasing number of Cruise Ships now feature Tor Bay in their cruising itinerary. The English Riviera has so much to offer the passing tourist and Torquay is strategically placed for various cruises - Round Britain, Trans-Atlantic and European positioning, 100 nautical miles from Southampton and 200 nautical miles from Dover.

Ships generally anchor approximately ½ mile South West of Torquay Harbour, with tenders landing at Torquay. Passengers disembark on Beacon Quay or Haldon Pier and can sample the delights of local shops and cafes or opt for range of interesting coach excursion options.

MS Amadea can carry between 508-624 passengers and has 280 crew members. There are 11 decks with 254 cabins.

MS Amadea cruise ship was built in Nagasaki Japan for the NYK cruise line (Nippon Yusen Kaisha) as "ms Asuka". The vessel was sold in 2006. This is a privately owned vessel (asset of Amadea Shipping Company), currently operated under time charter by Phoenix Reisen GmbH (major German travel agency and tour operator company).

During numerous refits and dry-dock refurbishments in the period 2006-2013, the former Asuka cruise ship was remodelled for the needs of the European market. Public areas were rearranged and redesigned in order to fulfil the demands of German guests. The whole project was managed by Cubik3 (design company from Germany).

German is the only language that is officially used on board. This is why most Phoenix Reisen cruise passengers are from German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland). There is personnel speaking English, but no services in English are provided.
