Kung hey Fat Choi! Happy Chinese New Year 2020!
Celebrate the Year of the Rat in January 2020 and welcome in Chinese New Year in Newcastle with another year of vibrant activities and parades in the city centre. Chinese New Year festivities will be based around the city's China Town along St Andrew's Street. Families are invited to enjoy free activities and performances for all ages including traditional crafts, dance, music and refreshments.

Events to look out for:
- 11.20am at Old Eldon Square: The Chinese New Year Parade will be performed at The Green, Old Eldon Square in the centre of Newcastle at approximately 11.30am before parading via Gallowgate to the Chinese arch in Chinatown. Walk alongside the parade along Stowell Street to Chinatown.
- Chinese Arch, Stowell Street
Speeches from key representatives of the Chinese community and Newcastle City Council at approximately 12pm.
- The popular traditional dragon and lion dances will take place around the ceremonial Chinese arch on Stowell Street at approximately 12.30pm.
- Enjoy an exhibition of arts and crafts as well as food at the North East Chinese Association on Stowell Street between 12pm - 4pm.
- Chinese Market & Fairground - Bath Lane
Come along and enjoy the funfair and stalls featuring traditional arts and crafts and Chinese food between 11am - 4pm.
