About

Burning the Clocks is a unique community event held on the 21st of December, created by Same Sky, that brings the whole city of Brighton together to mark the shortest day of the year. Started in 1993, Burning the Clocks represents an alternative to the commercial Christmas. Thousands of people gather to make paper lanterns to carry through the city before burning them on the beach as a token for the end of the year and to greet the lengthening days.

Burning the Clocks is a lively celebration of the turning of the year but also a time for reflection and thought.
