If you're visiting Bath's Christmas Market this year and need somewhere to escapem Bath Central Library will be offering a safe and quiet space for families with children and young people who have special educational needs or disabilities in the run up to Christmas. The aim is to help them escape the crowds and noise they may find stressful.

he Quiet Spaces project will be piloted at the library on the three Saturdays during Bath’s Christmas market.

Councillor Paul Crossley, cabinet member for Community Services, said: “Some people find the busy city centre in the run up to Christmas and particularly during the extremely popular Christmas market overwhelming.

We want to give families the chance to find some peace and quiet and provide them with a refuge from the city’s packed streets. We want to help improve people’s live and this pilot is one way that we think we can help make a difference to families with children who need additional support.”

The library’s quiet space will be equipped with information, sensory toys, a black out tent and books.

The project is being run in partnership with Rainbow Resource and Parkside Children’s Centre.

Quiet Spaces will take place at Bath’s Central Library at the Podium from 11am – 4pm on Saturday 30 November, Saturday 7 December and Saturday 14 December.

There’s no need to book and the drop-in sessions are free.
