Muse: Makers in Museums project at King John’s Hunting Lodge

Interactive artworks created by local artist Andrea Oke, while working with Axbridge & District Museum, will be on show at King John’s Hunting Lodge during Somerset Art Weeks from 23rd September to 8th October as part of the Muse: Makers in Museums project.

The artworks were inspired by the large collection of ancient manuscripts owned by Axbridge & District Museum, which are housed at the Somerset Records Office for safe -keeping. By bringing technology to King John’s Hunting Lodge, for the first time, visitors will be able to hear recordings of the original stories that inspired Andrea’s artworks by scanning QR codes with their smartphones.

During the Exhibition some of the historical documents will make a brief return to the Museum to be displayed alongside the work. Andrea said ‘I wanted to bring the stories back to Axbridge. You can view the work without a phone and there are games for younger audiences to play but if you bring your smart phone, with the scanning software on it there a new dimension to the work.’

During Arts Weeks King John’s Hunting Lodge will be open from 1pm to 4pm every day and the entrance fee for visitors be replaced by a small donation.
